thanks guys, i'm going to go with the linux server for 30 days and see how i get on, if i like it i'll buy it for the year, if not i'll try the windows and so on.....
I'll keep you all posted,

Thanks a lot!

You can't be wrong choosing Linux.
The most important thing is the DC (Data Center) where your box is placed. Choose DC wisely.

Windows is Microsoft. Enough said

Stop the monopolist pigs:D M$ =

WAIT!

If all you are doing is hosting a few of your own web sites, there is absolutely no reason to buy a server. That is overkill, especially if you don't know what you are doing.

There are companies that will give you a gig of space on which to host an unlimited number of domains for around $20 a month. With WebHostManager and CPanel to administrate it, you will have total control for not much money.

I do this now and have no real complaints.

And I concur with everyone else. I have used both, and much prefer unix to microsoft.

Well i have thought of this but to be honest i would rather have a server for a few reasons. 1/ learn more aobut them and how to operate them and 2/ it will benfit me in the future and allow me to expand.
Could anyone recommend a good provider for a linux server in the uk please?
