This was debunked by scientific testing on Discovery Channel's Mythbusters program. The '5 second rule' on dropped food was also found to be untrue.

This I know is NOT true, Our Oak tree started producing acorns when it was only 6 years old, and I'm still picking those pesty things up!, if you dont pick them up, they take root.

Perhaps that fact applies to another species of Oak.
