CNN BREAKING NEWS

IPSWICH, England (CNN) -- Detectives hunting the killer of five women working as prostitutes in eastern England have arrested a 37-year-old man, police said Monday.

The man was arrested at his home in Trimley, near Felixstowe, Suffolk, on suspicion of murdering all five victims, Detective Chief Superintendent Stewart Gull told a news conference.

He was arrested at approximately 7:20 a.m. (0720 GMT) for the murder of the women whose naked bodies were found over a period of 11 days.

He is in custody at a police station in Suffolk and will be questioned later Monday.

Gull said: "He has been arrested on the suspicion of murdering all five women -- Gemma Adams, Tania Nicol, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls."

The daily police news conference had been brought forward by 90 minutes for the announcement.

ITN journalist Juliet Bremner told CNN he is thought to be a supermarket worker who spoke to a British Sunday newspaper saying he believed he was a suspect.

On Sunday members of a 500-strong task force hunting a suspected serial killer canvassed motorists and pedestrians passing through a red-light district to try to trace the final steps of the five murdered women

Yeah, not sure they've got the bloke. Like you say, he went to the sunday 'newspapers' first & said as he has been a client of all 5 he must be a suspect.
As usual the police are behind even basic 'journalism'. LOL
For me the biggest clue though would be how can a supermarket worker afford to pay for 5 prostitutes regularly! (not that i would know the going rate ;) of course)
Therefore if he didn't pay, what did he do? Anyway, let's hope it is him & they've caught him. :undecided:

My sincere congratulations to the police officers!!!!!

nice to see the news international group using their PPC money well.
they were bidding on the name of the guy arrested, on google....
but i suppose murder sells papers and if they did help in shopping the guy then thats good??

The way I see it, the police had to do something.

After this loser got himself in the Sunday rags, they would have to take him in and thoroughly examine him. If they didn't take him seriously, and he turned out to be the killer at a later date - they would have a lot of explaining to do.

If it's not him, then he's been wasting police time and resources by insinuating that he is the prime suspect. If that's the case, he deserves to go down for a spell anyway.

BTW, I should hope he doesn't work on the deli counter at that supermarket...

Well, hopefully this is the right guy and the killings stop.

Latest:

#1 suspect released on bail - #2 suspect has been charged with all 5 murders.

Well done Ipswich police!

Too much of a coincidence he knew susie lamplugh. :greenconfused:
Police would be unlikely to charge him unless they were sure with worldwide coverage. Yes well done Police.
Fingers crossed it's him. :worried:
This is gonna run & run. Gotta think of the families full stop, but this close to Christmas is awful.
