I think nominal value as from what I understand his family could get the name under Wipo if they wanted it, but not 100% sure about that. However, it is an issue.

Yes, indeed ... Happy Birthday! :)
Please see "Legal issues" section here in this Forum; specifically, regarding UDRP (or its equivalent for the ".US" extension), and personal/celebrity names ... especially with regard to any potential future "commercial" use. Research the topic heavily.
Good Luck.

The MLK estate is known for their aggresive protection of the MLK legacy, name and thus it would be a matter of time before they'd be alerted to this. Interesting catch, but not much resale value.

Thanks for all the replies

but I think that George K had address the issue on celebrity names in an earlier thread re John Kennedy

--------

There was a precedent in the case of AlbertEinstein.com for names like this.

http://arbiter.wipo.int/domains/dec...d2002-0616.html

Alberta Hot Rods were allowed to keep it, when challenged.

Your link didn't connect for me ... however, again, I will bring up the point that this one is an ".US" (versus a ".COM") and that there COULD be a LOT of other factors (especially regarding its development/content) involved ... just research it heavily, in my opinion.
Good Luck.

Has anyone read through martinlutherking.org? It appears to be a front for a racist group.

Wouldn't you need to be one of them(MLK) for that point to have any validity?

Cheers

I think the name has problems with it. You may or may not be able to keep it if you underwent a UDRP. However, is the name (especiall in a .US) worth the hassle? My vote is NO.

Exactly. Perhaps thousands, even. But the question now is ... is YOUR name Martin Luther King?? :)
Please open a thread in the "Legal issues" section ... you'll be happy you did. Honestly.
Good Luck.

This is a lovely name and a wonderful domain for the right use, but I, too, would not look to it for its commercial value.

In fact, have you considered offering it as a gift to the Martin Luther King family? Not for sale at all ... just purely a gift.

I often wonder how a small group of people could actually change the world in significant ways with small acts of kindness. Making a gift of this to the MLK family is an act of the kind I have in mind.

I currently own a domain name that I plan to give to someone in precisely this spirit. When I do it (which won't be long), I'll let you know the name and why it seemed like the most loving and appropriate thing to do.

Just a thought ...

Good Luck, whatever you decide to do!

Why squat and try to make money off of somebody elses legacy? Bad taste.
