Theoritically speaking, how difficult would it be to move up on Google search, without exactly owning/having access to the domain you're looking to "move up". For example, there was a recent article on how Roy Williams, a football player from Detroit, meticulously checks his name on Google. Of course, his name falls behind the coach of the NCAA basketball team, UNC Tarheels, and Dallas Cowboys' player, who all share the same name.

The first page featuring the Detroit player is the fourth on the Google list, which is his page from NFL.com, which I obviously have no access to. Now, I am in a similar situation where a school has hired me to do some "PR work", and they would definitely like their name to sit on top of Google. I am not completely familiar with the mechanics of Google, but would it be possible to get a particular search tearm, like "Roy Williams", higher on the list, or in my situation, a school that shares the same name with hundreds of others? I'm sorry if this came off as confusing, I hope someone understands me.

Cheers

solicit or buy links with the term you want to rank for as the anchor text.

Set up a well built site, good semantic buildup and good onsite Seo. Then start building up your backlinks gradually. If you have strong competition you have some hard work ahead.
