Why do NS reserve the name for up to four days? Why not just one?
Also, imagine if all the registrars started doing this :?:

Seems you are new here :)
Do a search on 'Network Solutions' on this forum.
Official answer: to protect you
Better answer: to encourage you to complete your purchase there and pay an inflated price
Cheers

I've been a victim of front running a few times, but this measure does seem a bit fishy. I guess it doesn't matter too much because you can use their main whois page, but my main question is why do they hold it for upto four days and not less? Are they able to collect traffic data?

They are taking advantage of the 5-day grace period.
So yes they could be tasting the name and see if it gets any traffic. If you don't take it they could decide it's worth keeping. Netsol are domainers too...

To give you an example I just checked netsol-is-a-shady-outlet on their site
Now the .com has been reserved but not the .net
Because .com is the extension that is prone to receive type-in traffic, they know it and 'Customer Protection Measure' is a BS excuse.

And if all registrars did this, who will know what names are (or will soon be) available
