Ah, lots on ebay I see. How did those people get them though?

I think Google sends these invites out at random to its existing base of beta users who then either (1) send it to their friends or (2) sell it on eBay.

The window to launch seems to be coming soon. What puzzles me is that all the good first names seem to be taken, but when you try to contact these addresses, you get a permanent fatal error.
 
i wonder why google allow the invite to be sold in ebay...

I've been monitoring the gmail name rush for about three weeks now. For the first names that fit the 6 char minimum, I'm assuming they must have been reserved by google. Maybe for a premium sale later (at least that's what I'd do.) I base this on various means I use to test if a name is valid and/or available.
