About a month ago, I ran into a different layout, but after clearing my browser's cookies, it switched back to the old layout. They must be trying it on random visitors or something.
Well, the key difference was that the Google AdWords were not in small colored boxes anymore - the text was about the same size as the search results, and were simply separated by a vertical line. I just did another search and it is back to the old way now.... hmmm!
I have the new Google for over a week now. I haven't seen any fluctuations back to the old style.
I look the nice clean look and feel of it, but I am not sure about the adwords. They look "too much" like a regular listing, and I can imagine they are taking a good bit of traffic away from the "free" listings.
I have a site that is #10 under a very highly targeted keyword. There are 9 adword advertisers to the right. In reality, my site is more like #19 now, because the users actually see all the adword listings before they get down to #10
Now more than ever, it will pay to hold the top 2 or 3 positions.
