I'm about to pull the trigger on a house in Paihia, Bay of Islands for the second week. I figure it's better to go north this time of the year. I'll have to come back another time for the south side.

I lived in Carlingford, Silverwater, Riverstone and Marayala from '93 to about 2001.

I'm going on a family vacation to North Island New Zealand the end of June. I've already covered the first week in Auckland. We like day hikes in scenic places. Where should we stay for the second week? After New Zealand we're going to Sydney for a week. Any recommendations for Sydney?

You can't say you've been to Sydney without having done:

• Kings Cross
  
• Opera House
• Harbour Bridge climb
• Bondi Beach (mmmmmm....fish and chips.......)

But if you're heading over later this month maybe you might want to check out the upcoming State of Origin match. Even if you're not a fan of rugby league, it's a great experience (just make sure you're not wearing anything Maroon ).

Just in Leura? If you get to Katoomba which is a little further past Leura then I recommend my fave Blue Mountains restaurant - The Swiss Cottage. The smoked sausages and the choc fondue is worth the shortened lifespan. :approve:

And breakfast at the http://conservationhut.com.au/ in Wentworth falls after an early morning bushwalk is great.
