Overture data

So I check a term in Overture tonight. I checked "Pulitzer Prize". It shows that there were 8181 "hits" for that search terms in Jan 2003.

BUT, it also shows that there were 423 hits for "1948 cartoonist prize pulitzer".... there were also other variations of this terms, each yielding hundreds of hits at a time.

So my question is this - it is HIGHLY unlikely that more than 1 person was looking for so obscure a term, right? Or do you really think there were that many people entering the term?

So is Overture a true measure of search term popularity, or not?

If not - what IS?

I say "not". I do not buy domains based on any Overture numbers. If I want traffic, I buy domains with link pop.

yes , for the entire month there WERE that many searchs for cartoonist prize pulitzer..

Now take into consideration, duplicate searches, webmaster searches, news reports for the month, sports are sesonal for example..etc..

Link pop is becoming less important..follow the google news..
besides..link pop can easily ALL belong to 1 webmaster..he sells the domain and dropps the link...then what do you ahev ? a name that isnt searched on at all AND no links..

No matter which tool you use dig deeper in seeing why a name has so many searches or links.. when you better understand "why" then you'll make better domain registrations

Thanks for the info. I still don't buy that there were THAT many people looking for the 1948 Pulitzer Prize Cartoonist. If there were, statistically you'd expect every other year to show up, wouldn't you?

Easily that many searches..

Different tastes for different people.. you have over 6000 million people now hooked up to the internet.. 100 searches a month is only 33 searches aday..just not that much considering how many people are now connected.

Maybe it was part of a college exam ? ..

Maybe the term was used in the news last month ?
