Overture/Seaches: How important is it for a domains value?

I see this debate arise in many appraisal threads, when one person looks at overture and gives the appraisal for the domain, and another one says to completely disregard overture and gives a different value.

i don't think anyone should completely disregard ovt #s, but they aren't end of it all. to me personally they are only an added bonus, kinda like cherry on the top. i also see why some would think that ovt #s r all it matters.

But I strongly believe that the majority of the value of the domain (traffic aside), comes from how "popular" or "searched" the term is.

yes kinda sorta, but u r probably thinking of the 'immediate' value which is obvious to other resellers. end-users are different category. they don't think in terms how searched the term is, but only in relation to what the term means to them, and what amount they are willing to fork out. as such u will probably yield higher number of inquiries or offers, but they won't necessarily be of the right kind 4 u. for less or no searched generic terms you will get fewer inquiries, but they might yield higher amounts since the probable buyers are a bit more sophisticated and more in tune in what exactly they want. hope u understand what i mean here.

I can't see any .com that has 10,000 overture going less than 5 digits.
