Tonight, I became a certified and registered therapy dog handler. It pretty cool and quite different for me. I used to train and work dogs for the military in sentry, drug, and bomb duties.

I had gone through the course with one of our 5 rescued labs, Lexi. I passed the course last week but tonight was testing night by sanctioned TDI (Therapy Dogs International) evaluators.

Other than the fact that I took a nasty fall over a parking barrier when I got there, Lexi performed excellent. Plus, she also got certified with my wife.

Lexi is our third TDI therapy dog. The other two are Simon and Cotton. Only handlers checked off with the particular dog are authorized to work in a TDI sanctioned event.

Next week, my wife and I will both be starting additional training with two more of our rescued labs, Mobi and Abby.

At any rate, I have to say I am quite happy and proud of myself. We may be attending to kids at the Children's hospital but we'll wait and see what comes up.

Congrats!!!! :yo:

congrats doc! always good to hear success stories.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Proud of Lexi, myself, and my wife. My wife has been working at this tirelessly for the past couple of years.

Here is a link to a pic of Lexi.

Woff, woff. Good job Doc, Lexi, and wife. Lexi and handler will surely be very popular at the children's hospital. Great stuff.

Nice job, Doc. Labs do make good therapy dogs - they tend to like everyone.

Well done. Amazing amazon. Now aim for owning a center for dog training, and be the boss.

We are working on that but my wife would be the boss. :approve:

We have started a Reading Therapy program at the local elementary school which has been a huge hit. Additionally, we have founded and registered the TM of Tutors With Tails.

All of this is volunteer work and we have done all of this at our own expense and cost. Dogs are cool.

And everyone likes them!

My history with dogs has been mostly German Shepherds all my life. Labs are incredible animals.

I encourage everyone looking for a companion to check local shelters or rescue organizations for a dog that fits you and your lifestyle.

Congratulations Doc, I'm a dog lover myself and its always great to hear of good dog related news.

Keep up the good work....I wish you and your wife the very best....and Lexi too, she's a very lucky dog!
