I recently backordered a name and it was caught by pool. A bid by my account was automatically placed on the name for $60. I am now the high bidder but I did not put in the bid. All I can think of is that I am the only person who backordered the name so pool put in my $60 backorder fee, but then what would be the purpose of it going through a 3 day auction? If I were the only person who backordered the name wouldn't pool have just billed me the name immediately?

I think it's just knowone else that backordered it has started bidding any higher then the initial $60. If it went to auction, you are not the only one that had it backordered.

If you are the first person to put the name on the Pool watchlist and it goes to auction.
You are listed as the $ 60 bid. If you place another bid. It will remain at $ 60 until someone else bids.

Don't worry. Someone will place a bid before it ends. (Sorry about that.) :-(

Agreed, don't be fooled by the green light. There are lots of fat wallet wolves waiting in the shadows waiting to pounce 30secs before auction closes, then pull you out by a couple of thousand grand.

BD uses an automatic script that bids for them up to specific price.
And, then they go "manual" after that.

Don't worry about what other people are bidding.
Set a price in your mind. And, only go to that level.
If you win the auction - great. If not. Move on to another
name to chase.

Some people like to describe BD, Name Admin, Ult. and others as vultures or
wolves. They just have a competitive advantage over many of us -
move available cash. They have it because they have been in this
business longer. And, have made a lot of profit to re-invest in the business.

Eventhough, they drive me "nuts" sometimes. I don't take it
personally.

Just buy what you can, at a price that you can afford.
