I went to cancel 3 names I regged at godaddy last night but just before I hit the cancel button it says :NOTE: Cancelling a domain does not entitle you to a refund of any registration or transfer fees.

So how to I get my money back from godaddy?

Cancelling does not but ICANN TOS does.
I've got tens of thousands of dollars in refunds every a few months, so don't worry.

re:

Dynadot and GoDaddy charge $0, not even the ICANN fee.

Moniker chages 6.99 for domain registration, and DynaDot charges 7.99 if I am not mistaken

If you do the math, your making about 6K a year, so it will take about a year and a half to earn your investment back...still not bad but you want to maximize your profit margin, this is why I suggested domain tasting, since many domains are likely not earning anything.

I agree with many of the points Provider made.

It depends on the portfolio. If most of the revenue come from the top 40% names. After dropping the bottom 60% names, the money made would be 10K a year.

If the search model will provide consistent lists for registration with 50%ROI after first year this is VERY promising. Before each renewal individual investigation is necessary but dropping all names making below regfee+50%of regfee will increase ROI in the following years.
Plus, if names provide consistent traffic and PPC revenues it's always easier to sell them.
Looks like the author is learning fast so there may be the real base for the success.
Please keep us posted.

BTW: Can you PM me your procedure/logarithm? Maybe I'll be able to tweak it little bit free of charge.

I saw ck89102 asking questions in many threads and it seems he absorbed every little bit of information from the responses he got, plus used his common sense to go after traffic. He sets an example to follow for every person who is taking his first steps in this industry.

-Read as much as you can, ask many questions,
-Buy the necessary tools to scan names - without them you are fish out of water.
-Use common sense and creativity.
-Set goals, divide them into smaller steps so that your ultimate goal does not seem unreachable. Every journey begins with the first step.
-And most importantly - Don't give up too soon. It took me a long time to learn the basics of hand registration and even longer to get a return of my initial investment. During that time I watched people come full of ambition and quit in the middle of the way because they realized that domains are not a get rich quick scheme. Such thing does not exist - If you are prepared to put effort and patience, you will eventually see your goals fulfill

my $0.02

o and the last thing I forgot to mention: The Golden rule of gambling applies in domains as well. Never spend more than you can afford to lose. That is particularly important when making your initial investment

Thank you for all the direction, feedback, links to articles and terrific information that exists here because for YOU.
I wanted to relay this private $ info because I think that's what a lot of people really want to know.
I've purchased approx. 1,500 names over the past two months for around $10,000. I actually had (and have) have no idea what I'm doing but I started slow, researched & tested, then, I got lucky & found a particular type of name that made me money every day. I could smell the money. I then spent 8 hours a day for about a week and actually was able to uncover 3,000 of these general types of names that were available. Not really sure, I ended up buying 1,500 right away. Had to borrow this money, but hey, what's not a gamble? I'm keeping my day job.
Low and behold, my names are making me a steady $50 a day. The investment has returned over $1,200 last month and $1,400 this month. This works out to $15,000+ for the year - a super nice profit. OK, perhaps I got very lucky but if you just read all the great stuff out there, research, do your homework and test, the money can be made (and it's soo easy once it starts). :)
Someday, maybe I'll actually learn what I'm doing.

Can you disclose what percentage of your portfolio (if any) would have TM issues?

And you think they'll be still available? :)

Last week, I pulled 1,700 available domains.
Had lunch, came back 3 hours later and 1,300 were gone.
While I tried to register remaining 400, 90 more were gone.
I ended up registering 310 +/-.
