As far as I can see it's official SnapNames is dead, and it's only going to get worse.

Over the last few days I lost 6 snaps, all to pool and all were top names with some I had snapped for a long time.

In the old days of SnapNames you would stand a chance with getting a good portion of snaps, not now and if they are losing more and more regitsrars how is it going to get better for them?

Is anyone having success with them?

I'd say they are going to HAVE to start dropping prices or they are going to go out of business.

Andalso the snapnames resellers. They need to start offering 10 exchanges.

I have pretty much stopped registering snaps and am focusing more on pool as I have noticed many other people are doing.

snap got a bunch of great names yesterday.

More likely though that snap will have to raise prices to stay in business.

I have been very surprised at how frequently I am getting names that have Snaps on them with low bids placed elsewhere (took 3 yesterday and another today). I have mixed feelings about that. I'm happy to be grabbing those names that I would have had to write off in the past when having the Snap almost locked it up for the Snapholder, but at the same time I still have a lot of Snaps in place that are starting to look like they are not going to pay off.

Maybe they are just going through one of those cold spells that all of the drop catchers seem to go through at one time or another. They still have over 15 registrars catching for them, so you would think they would still be landing a lot of names.

As TooGood noted, the limited exchange Snaps with 3 changes are no longer adequate. I am going to have about 7 of those end up being wasted. They are no longer going to be part of my arsenal. If I take a Snap it will have to be an unlimited exchange one (unless they start giving their resellers 6 or more exchanges).

That is probably true. What registrar will stay with Snap and keep registering FreeRingtones.com for a few dollars when they could get a percentage of the $20,000 auction price?

If there is anyone looking to sell their snap accounts PM me with how many you have, how many exchanges left, and your price. Looking for at least 6 months left and 1 exchange minimum.

I don't think they're picking up .org's. They missed out on one for me that was manually registered. I got a snap on a couple .org's that are dropping soon, so I'll let you know if snapnames picks them up or not.

Yes snapnames success rate has gone down with the emergance of Pool as well as the loss of some of their registrars. But why should they be worried. They are still getting their $60+ from their own sales and $30+ from thier resellers. Try and find one mediocre name that's not snaped. People are alredy starting to loose their interest in limited exchange snaps. Again more money for the flagship. It will be a long time before their performance catches up with them. And before that happens, they will either go to bid system and pick up some more registrars, or they will take advantage of their prime positioning if wls rears its head.

Catch 22: raise prices lose business, lower prices lose registrars.

I'd like to see some recent comparitive figuires of snaps v pool.

Don't get me wrong, I have been a snapnames supporter, but I'm just trying to envisage a future in it.

SnapNames licensed WLS to Verisign - they have a vested interest in WLS going ahead. It seems that they burnt their bridges with their RRP partners though, so if WLS is not introduced Snap might find it difficult.
