This SPAM was sent to the email address that spambots got from our Perl forms. We never use this email address, only our older web forms contain it.

From: McCain Palin 2008 <[email protected]>

Your vote in this election is more critical than ever as the polls show John McCain and Governor Palin in a virtual tie. Voting early by absentee ballot or in person is the best way to get your vote counted now and avoid the long lines on Election Day.

Follow this link to get your Ohio Application

Ohio Voting Information

Voting Early by Mail
To vote absentee by mail you must apply for a ballot with your county board of elections.

You may apply for an absentee ballot at any time during the election year, but all applications must be received by November 1, 2008 at 12 p.m. We recommend that you apply for your ballot no later than October 19, 2008 to allow enough time to process your application.

Who can vote absentee

Any registered voter may vote absentee. No excuse is required.

Questions

If you have any questions about voting absentee you should check the Secretary of State web site or call your County Board of Elections.

Please Note

Note: if you registered to vote by mail and have not yet voted in person, contact your county auditor to determine if you can vote absentee by mail or if there are special identification requirements with your application.

Voter Responsibility

The voter is solely responsible for complying with any and all election laws and voting requirements.

P.S. If you are not yet registered to vote, please register right away by following this link.

Ya Ohio is a pretty important state this time around. I imagine they'll be knocking in doors, buying up huge blocks of TV ad space and giving plenty of speeches too. Get used to it!

Unfortunately politicians have excluded themselves from spam regulations when it's elections time, both for email and phonecalls. Bu this doesn't mean you can't be nasty and tell them to shove it :D

Obviously they use a spambot and send it to anyone.

I am not in Ohio and the hosting company (IP) is not in Ohio either.

I got the same exact email yesterday - since the domain is registered w/ GoDaddy, I forwarded it to [email protected] with a little note stating that they are sending out mass-email spam.
Your wife probably put you on their mailing list. Women sometimes know better than men.

That seems like a pretty disgusting practice when they can use Social Media, Viral Marketing and other online places to cheaply build an opt-in list extremely fast and without worrying about the negative backlash for an unethical practice.

However, did the email contain a contact address and a way to opt-out? If no, they are in violation of the CAN SPAM too.

Did you check the email headers to ensure it's not being spoofed?
