Great name. Would be a great Adult Verification or adult site name ...the main other uses I see are mostly security related. Solid name ...If it was mine, I wouldn't sell it for less that $7500 ... and even at that I probably still wouln't.

Yes, I think it would be good for adult verification. Ideally, it would be best to try to start my own, i.e. to compete with Cyberage (ha!), or partner with someone to give it "branding". I looked around for some scripts, and saw one for around $2,500, eeeek!

Since domain values are low these days, it probably wouldn't be wise to sell now, unless someone made an offer that ignores the current slump.

Type-in traffic isn't huge, yet. Hopefully if I can add some content, the content would create more repeat visits and type-ins.

Granted, it's a much better than average name. However, I don't want to rain on George's parade but must disagree with safesys and his seemingly far too high appraisal on it. Personally, I would value the name at less than $1,000.

If we use Overture stats the name would not get many type-ins at all. That's because first, it does not seem like a 'natural' or security industry keyword type of name people would type-in.

Plus, the Overture Stats are not that great with only 995 searches done. Returns of 995 are 'OK' but far from real good, and not nearly what they should be for a $5,000-$10,000 name.

It would also seem not too good as a sub-domain portal since the word restricted usually comes up first rather than last in terms, i.e. Restricted Stock not Stock Restricted, etc.

A great example of good sub-domain names are names like basketball.posters.com, baseball.posters.com, etc., where the keyword domain targeted term (i.e. Posters) coming up last are more natural, rather than first as in the case of Restricted.

Also, if you type in to Overture 'Restricted.com' there are zero returns, which means few people expect to find a website there.

Oddly a name which at first glance seems to be inferior quality to Restricted, I recently reg'd for $10 thanks to member Whois-Search's free list of unreg'd names and gets 59 returns on examplename.com before I reg'd it, which I found quite surprising.

I have a new small 1 page website online for this $10 name and it gets on average 19 to 28 uniques a day on the page counter every day, all type-ins as far as I know. I doubt if restricted.com would do that well on type-ins as a small 1-page site.

P.S. On the list below perhaps someone here could explain how the 2nd term manages 558 returns. I am asking for feedback from others on this anomaly

RealNames, it's just a disgruntled person spamming Overture with a repetitive search of that phrase in order to let off steam and skew the results.

 

realnames, the reason for the value is "vanity" - not ov, not google - plain old vanity. And thats where the higher prices come from with a name like this one.

Safesys, are you saying Restricted.com main value is due to it being a brandable name? This is what I now understand you to say. Right? Please correct me if I am not understanding you well to avoid past poor communications between us.

As a suggestion, not to criticize but I have noticed your posts are usually somewhat on the short side and usually do not go into much detail on what you are saying and your views.

Perhaps you could try to go into more detail and expand your views to avoid more misunderstandings. After all, we all appreciate your experience and great knowledge here so why not expand on it a bit?

Why? It's because there is a very limited small market for brandable names due to the major costs in money and labor involved in successfully branding an identity.

There are very few firms wanting to spend lots of money branding a name, expecially with the ongoing dot-com and stock market decline, ongoing since early to mid-2000.

Safesys, this is why myself and some others here put great emphasis on keyword and industry keyterms and Overture stats and type-in potential. With true type-in names traffic is achieved with little or no expense involved.

Thats not the way it works. You are thinking in terms of people looking for the domain/traffic to BE the marketing rather than for it to be used IN the marketing.

business.com wasn't bought for traffic, loans.com wasn't bought for traffic, orange.com wasn't bought for traffic, sky.com wasn't bought for traffic.

frequently companies opt for recognized terms for their products (mars bars and apple computers being 2 examples) - and restricted is an ideal name for the industries mentioned.

pretty much every domain i've sold has been bought based on the vanity element - either because it forms part of their company name, their product name or is descriptive of it - none have been based on traffic. I've gone over this many times in the past so might be worth taking a look back.

$500-$1000.
Restricted is a negative term which IMHO does not make it suitable for branding.

 

its negative to some things, but restricting hackers, thieves and children is a positive thing in some industries.

everything is relative.
