I have managed and had my own servers on and off for years. I took a year off from development and now that Im back into it for the last six months I want to put my sites back on a dedi. I don't need nearly all the space so I was wondering if anyone wanted to be a dedicated server with me. I don't want to make any profit (hosting company) off it, just some people to help foot the bills for a split of the space/bandwidth.
I don't run anything at all that is resource intensive and would not expect you to either, IE no proxies, etc. I would also want no porn on the server since I run some church related sites and don't want them on the same server as porn for obvious reasons.
Anyways if you are interested I was going to get a Opteron from SoftLayer. It would have cpanel/RVskins/fantastico/WHM. Basically you would get
60gigs of space / 500 gigs of bandwidth on a really fast and clean server for about $50 a month. There would never be a worry of it being oversold, as i only want to have a few partners on it with the amount of space equally regulated.
I would not let anyone without experience have root access or anything but you can run programs from the root and software can be added to the server if there is something you need.
