I seem to recall some 18,000 appraisals being done by Barry331.

It might be the case that Barry owns the domain already, and wants to list it on Afternic, but can't because someone else has it listed already and won't remove it from their portfolio. Making the enormous bids might help get the person's attention, or Afternic's attention to remove the name, so that Barry can list it.

This may be true but with Afternic's lame customer service or attention to their website; There's probably a better chance of a blizzard in hell.
