Just want to say that the site seems a little slow most of the time..... It's really the only bad thing about visiting here as it seems like it's on my mind each time I come in...

I think it could be faster despite the size of the community....

Don't take it as a complaint, just a suggestion so you know what the members are thinking....

Have you noticed a change in speed over the last day or so?

There's a lot of latency ... I doubt it's the database size, but rather something else ...

Remote server calls perhaps - does DNF query any remote servers when generating a page?

Some faulty software mods? ... in particular any mods (adscripts, etc) that are called for every page?

Have you considered hiring a tech from vBulletin to examine DNForum's server / database config - it could be well worth it in the longrun ... adding hardware is of little help, if the problem is a software configuration, outside issue, such as remote server calls, etc.

Part of the issue is the current configuration of this server.

We have hired a dedicated vb host for this to make sure it is configured proplerly.
Also, all hacks or features that are implemented will only be ones supported by VB.

Hussein -- I don't think that will be possible since vB doesn't support iTrader or points system. But yeah, minimizing the use of MODS will sure help a LOT. And going to a Linux server from a windoze one is a big and a positive step. =)

As for the speed, I've seen a bit of improvement since yesterday. Though not as fast as other sites but still better.

Click ... wait 10 secs ... page loads ... click .... another 10 secs....

Question - last time it was mentioned DNF was put on a Quad-core server with 8GB ram, and I am sure it is using Load-balancing between multiple servers, is there any reason DNF moves to new servers every so many months? It seems you guys have top of the line servers and move servers several times a year.

Doug -- it hasn't yet been put on the new server. Those should be ready next week. =) The tweaks that Hussein did were on the existing windoze server only to speed things up till there is a new server.

It was going ultra slow for me for weeks but now today it's back to fast again. Not sure what happened but I'm happy now. :)

Everything is still running painfully slow. I've spoken with other members and it's running slow for them as well.

It runs so slow that I sometimes abandon even coming here. This slowness issue has been going on for a while now.

It's more than a "little slow"...everything is running VERY SLOW--just to let the admin know.

I'll be surprised if this posts to the thread the site is running so slow.
