They recently added a new up sale popup and the default is now a 5 year reg instead of 2 year... Almost got me, until I saw the total was $147.70 for two domains w/o coupons applied (330AM)!

Yeah, the 2-year default for regs, rens and trans always bothered me and you can't change it no matter how hard you wrestle w/the system. I had set all my auto-rens to OFF also and it doesn't do you any good, you'll still get auto-renew ON for any transfers-in, for instance

And by now you know if you have a domain w/privacy you CANNOT renew it unless you renew its privacy as well ($9.99, no coupon will work there) The only way out of this is to go to their DBP site and manually cancel the service. It makes your private domains practically 99% safe against transfers to other registrars by crooks, but it sure is a pain in the ass, and triple-checking for those 2-yr (or now 5-yr) defaults for regs/rens/trans is too

I've never been that bothered by the dozens of extras you're offered before checkout and any extra pages to go thru, but these defaults set by YoDaddy in an underhanded way to trick all of us really pisses me off. And for those who say to go for Express Checkout, remember that w/that option you don't get that extra page at the end where you can double-ck for overcharges and double-charging, and you cannot enter any promos w/Express C/O either

As usual the 800-pound gorilla of Registrar World gets away with whatever it wants

I don't know if it's default 5 year auto renew, but it is selected by default going through the shopping cart, as opposed to the previous 2 year.

Can anyone confirm if autorenew is set for 5 years at $15/yr with the new update?
