US Nexus being checked

Didn't see a previous thread on this news, so here it is.

When registering a .US Domain, the registrant must meet the Nexus requirements defined under http://www.dd24.net/documents/dotUSpolicy.en.pdf

At the time of the domain registration all registrants are required to certify that they meet the Nexus requirement by indicating the category under which they qualify, such as e.g. United States citizen, permanent resident of the US, American organization, bona fide presence in the US, etc. The .US Registry NeuStar is bound by their contract with the Department of Commerce to conduct periodic random checks of registrants' nexus
eligibility. In the past, this was done on an informal basis. Since January 27th 2003, this has however changed. NeuStar will randomly select approx. 0,5% of all registrations during a week and these registrations will be reviewed for Nexus compliance. The procedure will be that Registrants of these 0,5% will receive a so-called Nexus Confirmation email, meaning that each registrant will be required to reply to the email, and in doing so
reconfirming their nexus status. Registrants will have 30 days to respond to the request. If a registrant fails to respond, Neustar will attempt to contact the registrant again. In the event there is no response to the second request, Neustar will delete the domain in question without refund.

So will the emails just be like "Click here to confirm you can register under the policies etc... or will identification be required? (proof)

LOL, at $6 revenue per reg, is Neustar going to spend $66 to manually verify identities and eligiblity??

The domain system is screwed really bad because no company can afford to give money to consumers for market share anymore.

This is definitely another one of those hogwash exercises that the registrar periodically conducts to appease their so called obligations.

It will probably be enforced as harshly as using correct whois information.

I would imagine they would want some form of ID, but who knows. It might not be worth their time to validate IDs.

I would agree with that..BUT "challenging" a registration without proper registration info has more bite...

Once again..they are in the business of selling domains..they will not turn down revenues because someone isnt quite on the up and up.. They leave that "challenge" open though.

think neighborhood watch.. the police dont go up and down every alley every night to check for loud parties.. but if they are alerted to it they will come and take care of it...

We couldnt AFFORD to have them check each and every street address..that dosent mean the law (disturbing the peace) is hogwash though..
