Using whois, I can across a reference for a server from this domain:

VeriSign Lame Delegation Domain (LAME-DELEGATION-DOM)
Domain Name: LAME-DELEGATION.ORG
Record expires on 22-May-2004.
Record created on 22-May-2002.
Database last updated on 29-Jul-2002 12:23:49 EDT.
Domain servers in listed order:
NS1.WORLDNIC.COM 216.168.225.131
NS2.WORLDNIC.COM 216.168.225.132

Anyone else come across a reference to this server, with respect to names which had expired? What's verisign up to exactly? Why is this server appearing on some domains as a secondary (expired domains but not dropped/deleted?) ... more NSI nonsense?

I have 2 SnapBacks on names that are currently on the "Lame-Delegation" servers. Here's the odd thing. The first name I snapped back actually expired in 11/99! The 2nd name expired in 01/00. Both had NetSol listed as registrar.

A week ago, I received notice from Snap that some activity was taking place on both names:
**********************************
The domain name has been removed from the root name
servers. As a result, web site, email and other server
functions may stop functioning. A name may be removed from
the root name server because the registrar has put a hold
on it during a dispute, or for non-renewal. The latter case
increases the odds of a pending release of the name.
***********************************
Both had been put on the "Lame" servers of NetSol.

Of course I thought it a bit odd that domain names that had expired YEARS ago should still not have been released to the public.

But I'm starting to worry that the "Lame" servers are actually a temporary holding tank for NetSol to get these names back.
The names are quite good.

Seems that Lame servers are a precursor to Registry Not Found in Local DB ... and an eventual drop .... (hopefully) ....

Lame delegation occurs when someone higher up in the DNS chain delegates name service to a name server, but that name server either doesn't exist or doesn't believe that it has authority for that domain.

NetSol is cleaning up lame delegations within their database, and I suspect these assignments are related.

I have been monitoring seeral names and noticed the Lame Delegation this a week or so ago.

A lot of these still have the contact info and this does preceed the "Not Found in Local DB" message that indicated the upcoming drop.

Yeah and whats even more funny ........

Domainsbot say they have been monitoring them for months :

"During the past months, our engineers worked hard to find out a way to track domains that are dropped without a specified order by registrars that don't follow the ordinary release schedule.
These domains are dropped UNEXPECTEDLY by their registrars (they don't follow the 5 days grace period) and is very difficult for speculators to track them." domainsbot

What a joke !!! LOL

how could "During the past months our engineers worked out" when this "new list" fell out of the sky overnite? I'm still not
sure what this LAME-DELEGATION.ORG thing is doing.

get the list from top of www.exody.com

Andrew,

How can you say "Domainsbot say they have been monitoring them for months" when we never mentioned we are offering this list in our newsletter? The domains we will launch tonight are absolutely not related with Lame-Delegation List! LocalWhois offered the unexpected drops list a few months ago, how can it be related with L-D.org?

Andrew,

What do you mean? What is Lame-delegation.org?

Let me know

DB

Verisign Registered a domain name LAME-DELEGATION.org

They then have proceeded to make this name the DNS servers of a load expired names :

example Lookup Rude.org :

http://www.whois-search.com/index.php?query=rude.org

Everyone is watching these lists to see when they drop.

The full list can be got from www.exody.com/lame

Even because the domains in our new list will be available at the time we publish them. Lame-delegation names are on-hold, I suppose.

Aren't them?

In the domains I was monitoring, some of which had "expired" in early 2001 or earlier, the shift to Lame-Delegation.org was followed by the not found in local DB approx. 3-6 days later. From that point, approx. 5 days to drop!

Re: Rude.org there seems to be a problem. Given the expiry on Jan. 2003, I assume that this was recently auto-renewed by the registrar.

Record expires on 07-Jan-2003.
Record created on 07-Jan-2000.
