web 3.0 ???

I've been reading about web3.0
Anyone have any opinions on it ? Have you reg'd any related names ?

good names for these are the zero names like 0web.com, 0site.com, etc etc. where the subdomain can easily be made to any webx.0 name (web2.0site.com, web4.0site.com, etc.).

Where web2.0 was for community, they say 3.0 is the semantic web that finally brings to reality the old dream of intelligent software that utilize semantic data. From wikipedia:

It is the next stage of the World Wide Web's evolution vary greatly. Some believe that emerging technologies such as the Semantic Web will transform the way the Web is used, and lead to new possibilities in artificial intelligence.

... more marketingspeak at the moment, but I'd guess before that happened, the next new wave or fad would have taken over the interwebs and be given a new name.

what exactly would it mean in real world terms? What applications would you see of web 3.0? Web 2.0 meant user created content, how would web 3.0 be different from this?

I can't see there being a web 3.0 anytime soon.

Actually, nobody's really given a good definition of "web 2.0" properly either :lol:, just a weak general consensus and web x.0 only makes for even more confusion, with everybody having their own definition.

But like Web 2.0 and that judge who said he couldn't describe what is pornographic and what is artful either, just that he'll "know it when he sees it," it usually refers to the natural evolution of the commercial Internet, focusing more on the backend (instead of front-end AJAXy stuff for example) and enabling more powerful ways of doing things.

But just take a look at these different views from just one simple Google search, and you'll see we're not getting any clearer on that anytime soon.

^^ web 2.0 = user generated content (forums, social networking, etc)

Prior to web 2.0 the web was a lot more static.

web 2.0 = dynamic

and that's the only difference. It is updated mostly by users, which keeps it ranked high.

There are still tons of non web 2.0 websites that rank very well, and web 3.0 is just a dream for those who haven't managed to do well with 2.0. It doesn't exist, at least not yet, and nowhere in the near future.

I wonder if web 3.0 will be the shift from world-wide-web to world-wide-computer.
Nick Carr give a great interview about the future of the web and how major players become the Utilities Companies of the future. He compares live web applications and their owners (i.e Google, Amazon) to the old electric companies.

It takes around a hour to listen to, but very well worth it if you stake your claim and business on the web.
