I was in the process of selling one of my domain and the boss of a big website (his sites ranked xxx at Alexa) mentioned as follows after a series of offers and counter offers.

Our best offer is $xx,xxx. (he didn't mention anything else in his reply when he made the offer)

I think over and over about the offer. I finally accepted the offer and asked his preferred email for escrow.

He then said he would need approval from the company as it is over $10,000.

After few days, he said he didn't make a final offer.

His reply was as follows:

I never made a final offer.

I think if you say "Our best offer is xxxxx.", it is final offer. Isn't it?

I think it is just a lie from a millionaire.

What do you think about this?

I would say the new price is 500k or buzz off.

I'd reply saying that you don't want to be messed about - either buy it or tell me you won't; price is what was agreed, valid for 48 hrs. Take it or leave it, no more negotiating.

People back out from their offers all the time. Not nice, but there are worse. I had a buyer backing out from selling me his apartment for about $100,000 20 years ago, hours before we're ready to go to the lawyers for a legal sales contract.

i don't think there is anything left to understand

unless they contact you again, move on to the next one

Sucks but what can you do. He may contact you in the future but do not seem desperate for the sale. How much did you pay for the domain?

DouchebagCEO.com is available :D

Sorry to hear that it happened to you.
But, it happens everyday :disappointed:

Nothing is final until you have money in your pocket.
