I like to buy a server-side or desktop script to catch dropping domains.

I would not use the script to catch "highly desirable" dropping domains but to catch some average domains which fit into my niche.

I know that the script is not able to compete with deleting domain sites such as snapnames etc...

But as I said, the domains I like to catch with the script might NOT be very desirable but I like to catch them once they are dropped.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I might be interested in something like this, too. Many names I'd like to get, but forget to check on a regular basis on the drop day tend to get registered within a few hours.

I know what you mean. I wish there was a way to add an event to a calender and you get notification via email when the event occurs. Would be handy for domaining when you've had your eye on a domain so you don't forget its about to drop, end in auction, etc.

Edit:

Holy crap, I'm an idiot. I just thought to myself, how come G hasn't created an app called Google Calender, and it turns out they have, and it has this functionality lol.

Gotta love Google :)

I have written a PHP script that does exactly what you described. But it only works under these conditions:

  • it uses Dynadot API -- in order to use the API, you must have Bulk Pricing (requirement: $500 minimum spending/deposit)
  • it runs on a VPS using cron job (not sure if it will work on shared hosting)
  • currently there are restrictions from the Dynadot API: "For COM/NET domains, you can only check or register the same domain 10 times every 100 seconds."

It cannot compete with Snapnames, of course. It won't even be able to compete with a GoDaddy backorder. But it will surely beat hand regs.

PM me if you are interested. I don't have any set price in mind, so I suggest that you try the script first and then pay me what you think it's worth :)

Have you tried dnware.com (this website or the software being sold are not mine and am not related with the owner/s either).? It seems to do what you people are looking for...

you don't need a script, if you know when and what time the domains drop

I am not full time domainer and could not watch the domains around the dropped time for sure because of the nature of my work.

Have a look at the post I'm about to make in this forum regarding your question.
