I don't think so.
Not checked, but there probably has to be an option to manually enter any who.is
server(s) for any extension.

Yes, most have protection against scripts, I hope crsnic didn't
implemented one too.

I just tried Verisign's web whois. Seems it works OK.
Maybe you have some temporary DNS problem.

Try IP address of crsnic as a whois server: 198.41.3.54
