Whois server allowing scripts?

I am making a whois program for personal use.
I saw someone recomending a whois server allowing rather large
queries, but can't find it anymore.
Well, its not so bad, I think I'll occassionally need no more than 1000 queries in say 15 minutes.

I can incorporate a list of all, but would rather focus on good

What about purchasing high-volume whois access for a non-marketing purpose like validating listings on an auction site? Is that possible?
