I can rant all day and all night about why kijiji.com will not prosper but I will start and end with the basics. First off, what kind of name is kijiji? Yes I know it means "village" in Swahilli... great got it? Why choose it as the name of a subsidiary company? It made my list of worst name chosen for a company even before the tech bubble. It is confusing phonetically and a typosquatter's dream. Seriously, what were they thinking.

My second reason for thinking this domain (I mean website) will not take off is, well, sex and massages. Come on people.... you know where I'm going with this. Sex sells and there is no "erotic massages" section or naked cleaners. Frankly put... I see no happy endings. (couldn't help myself)

The italian version of Kijiji is full of erotic messages only.

the site is huge here in Toronto, how do you figure the site not going up! its already UP!

Kijiji.com has a traffic rank of: 2641

Being up and prospering are 2 different things. They created the site with intent on challenging Craigslist dominance. Numericaly speaking, the site has been up now for a year or a year and a half now and the numbers don't add up as in, it has not been profitable (at least not in the US). Just look at the frequency of visitors to the number of listings posted and cross analyze that with the analytic figures that craigslist provide on their site and you will see what I'm talking about. It is dismal.

i really dont like their site, its ugly and full of sponsored ads.. have you tried browsing through their job boards.. their is 90% ads and 10% spam

It's a bad domain, you almost don't want to look directly at the word kijiji. You get that sick feeling like when you're a passenger in a car reading for too long.

I personally don't like the site..but

kijiji is owned by eBay ... seems to be doing well in the Toronto area, they are going after Craigslist market since I'm sure craiglist has taken some eBay market...so maybe they are just trying hold, get back or expand their market share. They still would rather you buy and sell on eBay, I think this is just to pick up the local and free crowd.

this site was unknown not long ago,
they have a big parent company

I would bet on kijiji getting bigger and better... JMO

:yo:
