I watched several demos of the upcoming OS and I can't say I am impressed. It looks and functions like Vista on the outside and the improvements are minimal. Sure, code has been re-written to be efficient and faster etc. but with today's hardware there are no performance issues. Windows 7 offers no dramatic improvements over Vista and frankly, it looks like a Service Pack. For Win XP users it might be a worthwhile upgrade. Personally, I use Vista 64bit and have no reason to upgrade.

Theo....what exactly do you mean by Vista 64bit...is that different from my Vista version?

Vista comes in two flavors: 32bit and 64bit. With the 64bit version you can take advantage of 64bit CPUs and have more than 4Gb of RAM. Using 32bit Vista with a 64bit PC makes little sense.

Just Right Click on My Computer and go to Properties. It tells you right there.

I wished I had purchased the 64bit OS when I bought my new computer last year, but I have not had any major complaints regarding Vista 32bit. It has hung up on me a few times and every month I give it a reboot just to keep it running smooth.

I am hooking up a new iMac 24in today, so we'll see how it goes with the transfer. Sorry to say but Windows is nothing special nowadays.

Perhaps it is because I am using Vista Ultimate. Do you know what version of Vista you have?

Ill just be happy if i can keep my XP, I have it on my PC, unfortunately for my laptop I cant get ahold of XP drivers, just the vista ones.

everything, the manufacture has only released them for vista, If I put a lot of effort into using 3rd party drivers I could get XP on it but its not worth the fuss, just I prefer XP to vista, Ill be using XP as long as I can on my PC atleast, I can deal with vista on my laptop as i rarely use it to work on, just for games and movies. Id love to get away from MS products completely, I love using linux but I have MS only apps that dont work through the likes of wine

I doubt everything is vista-only drivers. Most drivers I have found for products are Vista, XP, etc. Some are Vista only, but they provide XP drivers as well.

You say everything, but the manufacturer has only released them for Vista. Does this mean all your products are made by the same manufacturer?

What product(s) are you talking about that does not provide XP drivers? I am curious.

i never upgraded to vista, but i've been running windows 7 beta as a virtual machine on my ubuntu laptop with 512mb ram with no issues. its pretty and works well, but i've not really found any reason to fire up the virtual machine that often.

you can grab the vmware player from vmware.com and the beta windows 7 image from tux distro and give it a spin.
