Wordpress slow

Been working with wordpress a lot lately and changing over many sites to wordpress but I'm getting some real poor response times. I know there are many hosting providers that say they specialize in wordpress speed, but I have a server.

Anyone know what it is about wordpress that would make it slow, or more importantly ways to speed it up on my server.

I need to find a good load time checker site, but all my sites load fast enough for me, but many of my wordpress sites I just would not wait on at these speeds ...

Any CMS including wordpress, joomla ARE slower than sites that don't use CMS.

You may want to consider using cache plugin such as this one for wordpress.

Yes, and check the load on your server. A simple "uptime" typically shows current & recent average loads on the server.
