I guess you have never been there. Douala for example is bloody expensive. A local beer in a "night club" cost $10, but the night club is close to what you would consider a dumbster. The Hilton in Yaounde is like $250 a night and would have like 1 star on an international basis. If you go to 3rd world countries, the cost of western life is higher than anywhere else. Trust me, been there done that.
