Yes the first's things you do you cherish :).
I've used shared and reseller host but right now I just got a dedicated.
Ah yes :) I want to show you the stats of the server also :)
Core 2 Duo running at 3.0 ghz
1,000 gb space
100 mbps port connected to 15 mbps unmetered bandwith
Cpanel
Yep.
It's pretty much sweet at the moment.

Best thing I got a great deal from the guy I bought it from.

Oh why the dedicated?
I'm going to release a search engine very soon.
Hopefully it will succeed :).

Good thing....my dedicated is billed for 4 month already.
:) no worries for me so I can continue with this slow project.

Thanks guys again. I can't wait to have my first search engine setup soon :)

Whats the name of it and when is it comming out?

Google has 'number of visitors to the site = popularity' as the core search algo. What's yours algo behind your search engine?

Brivy.

Go Brivy It :).

Original name was going to be OnceI but since people pronouced it Oncecee instead of Once I i changed it to brivy.

Its "number of incoming links = popularity" rather

Congratulations :) It's always nice getting your first dedicated server. I started on shared, then went to VPS (and then could never go back to shared), and now have a dedicated server and don't want to go back to VPS ;)

Just remember to keep a good backup system - if you have 2+ HDs in RAID 1 then that's helpful, but a good backup system is also completely important. And don't just keep backups locally - or just port them to a backup servers. And good hacker can and will get to the other backup servers and destroy backups there too. Look into getting an rSync-based backup strategy, and also an external backup system (even if it's zipping up your server, and downloading the file to your own home PC, etc). Sorry to be a downer but... y'know... backups are very important ;)

It does take a bit of time :) I started off by going from shared to VPS which was a bit of a jump, but it then made the VPS -> dedicated jump do-able.

I see you have cPanel/WHM which is good - it's a really powerful and handy tool. One thing I'd suggest once you've configured the server pretty well is to install CSF ("ConfigServer Security & Firewall") - it has a GUI in WHM and one of its features suggests other security measures you can take to further secure the server.

Also, feel free to PM me or something if you need some help with it. I'm not an expert but maybe I can help

Now that is "community spirit"...good on you Tristan :ok:
