For anyone using Zone Alarm Pro for their firewall.
BEWARE:

The latest version (5) is full of bugs, it is pathetic.
We tested it in 10 different machines.
After installing v5, 1/2 of the sites do not show up. You cant even get to their site to get support.
It is apparent from their forum that they are having serious problems with this release, and instead of apologizing and taking it out, they suggest uninstalling v5 and reinstalling 4.5, which I finally did and can now surf.
On top of that, they never send you your login/password from their forum. I tried 10 times, and it says email is being sent and it is never sent.
For the last 2 weeks it has been a nightmare using them.
I have been with them since v2, and it is sad that they dont address this problem IMMIDIATELY.
Anyone know of a better firewall?

Zone Alarm still is better than competitors i think. I am using 4.5. Others would be from Mcafee and NIS

dont upgrade to v5!!!
look at their forum. It was a disaster.
There is no support, and I cant even access the forum.
I downgraded back to 4.5 PRO but it seems some DLLs are still there. it is doing much better now, but occasional problems.
I mean it is a true disaster, never seen anything like this.
Anyone else used v5 of ZA pro?

Maybe you should lower the protection level to the "medium"?
Anyway, i think Sygate (www.sygate.com) and Kerio (www.kerio.com) have similar firewall offers.

thanks.
the sygate one looks good.
A shame after so many years that ZA has gone so downhill.

I'm running 4.5 version fine. What other support would you need? Perhaps they are working hard to update V5 so its workable and instead of wasting time with support for the current one they are suggesting to downgrade and stick with 4.5 until they can release a V5.1 or something that will work as its supposed to

I cant even access their site!
There is no suport email, and ZA is not allowing me (v5) to connect to half the sites out there.
They should have withdrawn it since apparently it is causing problems with everyone (according to their forum) even though I cant even subscribe to their forum to post a question...
Once you downgrade to version 4.5 from 5.0, apparently some DLLs are still there, so it is still causing a problem to about 20% of the sites with 4.5 (after downgrading)
Their support is simply non existent

I'm using 5 with no problems.

Try this:

Go into:

Program Controls and delete ALL of the software permission names you see.

Set the security to MEDIUM (this way each program will have to ask for rights to work)

I tried this and have had no problems since. For some reason I think the firewall takes over somehow.

Hope this helps!

Hmmm, I was gonna upgrade but I guess I better wait a while... :-(

Tried it FMS, but it still doesnt work on the other 2 computers :-(
on this one I am using 4.5

thanks for tip i have been having problems with zoze alarm also

I just upgraded to Norton IS 2004 (from 2002) & apart from some initial problems with part of it kept not responding (went away after I ran LiveUpdate) it's been good.
