These are one type of IDN - International Domain Names. They are clearly not international for an English speaker (the language is ENGLISH) but they use symbols/dingbats and that's why they are categorized this way. For more info. and other symbol domains, see my post below.

Re: these domains, they are clearly not international for an English speaker (the language is ENGLISH) but they use symbols/dingbats. This is why I didn't put it in the IDN sales category. Because they are English. I do have several symbol domains with other languages, and those I would put in the IDN category. Symbols are an anomaly so it seems most logical to categorize them according to language used.

The idea is that they are obviously unique and eye-catching and a curiosity, so people would naturally view them when doing a search and this kind of domain comes up as a result. It can then redirect them to your "regular" site. So it's a great way to get traffic to your site.

If the site is decent and the viewer likes it, he/she will bookmark the site and access it from there. So those are reasons why the symbol doesn't have to be on the keyboard.

Lastly, someone asked about TM...I don't see how a copyright symbol with such generic words like lawyer, law, boston, 2007, etc, could be a TM or copyright issue. I didn't check before buying b/c I don't see it as an issue at all based on my knowledge of these laws. But if you're concerned, I encourage you to check it out so you can feel ok about it.

Can you give some idea when these were regged?

I have recently gotten into exploring IDN and the symbols.

I have yet to have any with the heart shape get accepted. And this was from several attempts at several registars. Even though there is an AVAILABLE statement and an acceptance, they ultimately get kicked back.

By the way, very creative and now I know where some I was looking at now live.
