$20,000 for 1 day text link

This part worries me:

Pageviews per day : Over 15,000
Unique users per day : Over 11,000

For $20,000 I'm going to need more information than just "Over 15,000" page views per day... if it's anywhere even NEAR 15,000 it's the worst deal in internet history!

And if it's anywhere near 11,000 uniques a day, then it looks like it would be priced out at a little under $1.83 PER UNIQUE.

After looking at this I think the numbers might actually be right... This is a link to advertise on FARK, which is much cheaper, yet WAY more pageviews. See for yourself: http://www.adbrite.com/mb/commerce/purchase_form.php?other_product_id=27915

:dead:

I just assumed that was the highest the numbers show, but that link you posted has much higher views, etc. WTF, what kind of rip off is this supposed to be?

Yeah I assumed that too until I checked into it a little more.

BIG rip off it those numbers are real.... They do seem low though. But again it's coming straight from Alexa, so I don't know what to think.

Also Fork is PR 8 but WordPress is PR 9. Fork's prices are alittle to cheap though. But the numbers are either quite off, or they are nuts.

Well, this is why it is becoming increasing important for companies to own domains and hence the traffic and not rely on advertisers who are becoming increasingly expensive. The cost of good exposure on the likes of Google is going to increase much faster than the rate of inflation, but you either advertise or die. Companies will have to focus more and more on how to get value out of online advertising.

Look at how people are reacting to this more people are going to the site now just to check if this is true. They are probaly doing this because they want more traffic from people and who ever does by the link will probaly get either no traffic or tons. Think about it he will be the first to buy the highest very piad link for one day. Wouldent you think you would go to that website to check it out? I would! :)

^Yeah NL has a point. Could be.

Hmmmm...

thanks for the news

This is more a sponsorship, not a "usual" ad space. So the high price might
not be a realistic market value of the available advertising space, but it is
an idealistic amount which you donate to WordPress to support their work.

Ideal amount to buy a new car with...lmao- they are smokin crack!

I'll rather buy a highly targetted/traffic domain with that price

Many open source projects are dependent on donations. There's nothing unusual about this. If you don't want to spend so much money for the ad you can buy a domain or a car for the same amount of money, of course, but if you want to support them you can do so by buying the text link. As said before, it's a sponsorship, no investment from which you expect a return. It's more giving than taking.

You are bang on, look at all the companies who spend hundreds of thousands and millions on advertising on tv, newspapers, internet, etc. They could take a fraction of their ad budget and buy traffic domains related to their business and be a whole lot better off long term. But most businesses haven't even realized this yet!

I hope the do, I have alot of the ones they need! hehehe saving them for that rainy day...raining cash that is...
