Yes, the .gr realm was not open for general registrations. When Forthnet ruled (at *least* until 1998) applications for .gr domains were essentially restricted to companies and not individuals.

ah, ok. You mean it existed, just not for individuals.
Actually, it was open to both individuals and companies, there was a restriction to 1 domain (.gr) per individual, but no restrictions to companies.
I had regged my first in 97 as a company, then a few others, and as an individual also in 97.
