Would a good generic name be still valuable with prefixes like "4" for "for" or "2" for "to"?

4 (for) and 2 (to) don't hack it today. It's a lousy compromise for a great naming idea. The hype is over, and so to the tolerance for naming flippancy. Just goes 2 show how bad the availability situation was back in 1998 4 addressing. Sheesh.
