Capital of Algeria, second largest city in North Africa and one of the most historically important cities in Africa. Algiers can be equated to Cairo, Egypt in many ways.
Population of over 3 million.
Algiers was one of the most important cities in the first and middle part of this century, slowly fading from the limelight later on.
However, there has been a resurgence in interest in this city, with more and more tourists and more efforts being taken by the government to promote the city to its former glory.
Economically, Algiers is the most important port in North Africa, and has the highest cost of living of any North Africa city, and 50th in the world in 07.
