I have had it with this....

3 or 4 times in the past year I have received ridiculous offers for domain names and countered them with a conservative amount.

Every one of those failed - buyer just disappeared.

In the mean time, the domain is in limbo and I have to keep reminding Sedo that it is a done deal and to please release the domain.

This time I will not even respond because there is no way to cancel transaction unless you make a counter offer and then have to wait the obligatory period ??? before you can cancel. Where is the consideration from the buyer?

I have been in the real estate business for more years than I would like to admit. I would NEVER formally present an offer to a seller unless I had a security deposit (meaning that if the seller accepts and the buyer defaults - the buyer forfeits the deposit). I would just contact the seller and tell them point blank - here is a verbal offer without any consideration.

Let the potential buyer put his money where his mouth is and make a deposit with Sedo BEFORE an offer is presented to the seller.

I realize this would entail more work (bookkeeping) for Sedo, but I for one would be willing to allot to Sedo an additional percentage for a certified offer which ends in a successful transaction.

Forgive me and thank you for letting me vent my opinions

I fully agree; the lack of provision for the seller to cancel a lowball offer outright is ridiculous. Personally, I don't even respond to lowball offers - I let them expire. Or I reply with a 7 digit offer - does the trick.

You can cancel lowball figures... I do it often

also we were discussing that very issue of buyer putting down a deposit for domains over a certain value

You cant cancel offer the first time it came in. you have to counter and wait for the bidder to counter, then you can cancel.

well I can, and I have cancelled offers as soon as they have come in Without having to respond. However a few weeks ago I could not, but since last week I can

I'd like to try that out. Want to lowball one of mine & send info on how to cancel? There is no such option when I view the offer.

From a buyer's perspective... I've tried to buy a domain for its stated "offer" price only to have the transaction "expire".

That means they did not respond at all.

cancel negotiations is what I press. A few weeks ago it told me that I had to respond to the offer, then all of a sudden I could.. however as I have my domains all set at $100 it maybe because they are submitting lower.. not sure as to the reasons I just know that the last 2 lowballs I have just cancelled out straight away.

Will need to wait for ED to confirm. either way I have found it useful as one came back with a new $1000 bid a few minutes later..

I got a low ball just the other day and I could not cancel. I have to reply, and then if/when they reply, then I can cancel.

In the mean time, the amount of bidders that disapear has increased dramatically over the last few months. in the mean time, the domain cant be sold, there is even a sign saying pending transfer while the buyer is no where
Sedo MUST address this issue!

In order to have the lowball offers rejected right away you have to set the minimum offer price in the account. I believe you can still display the domain with the "Make Offer" feature, and then the site will automatically reject offers lower then the ones you choose to view.

i just replied with a high six figure, usually buyer cancels right away, but this smart*** is waiting out the 7 days, i dont think i will offer any more counters for low ball bids

Sometimes the domains in question needs a lowball offer just to give them a reality check cuz there is some crap out there for stupid money i have put $100 offers for 3k domains in the end i can pay 500 for them so at least its a starting point.

Ive seen people turn 1k for domains and let them expire utter madness problem is people are just simply to greedy and when they have their domains at a stupid price they wonder why someone comes up with a lowball offer, its o.k ignoring them and letting it expire but that person then wants to pay good money for it he cant as you are only allowed one blast at that particular domain.

Remember its a starting point just drop your price a little each time then bang you good sell it but coming back with silly counter offers is taking the piss.

Its simple i wish sedo would list each domain with a sellers username and that means when you see a domain with that user you simply dont bother it saves all the nonsense with the silly tittle tattling !

Gotcha. It doesn't really matter to you though - as long as you don't have a long queue of offers.
