Apple usually guards their trademark pretty closely so it's surprising it took so long.
 
The article says 'granted control', 'ownership transferred'.. it doesn't actually imply anything about it being purchased for a lump sum?
 
Didn't Forest Gump own this one?

Owner must have been playing hardball. They couldn;t take it from him unless he was misusing it, surely.
