Are business 'fan pages' dead

I understand that FB is trying to change the way fan pages are maid and trying to move it to timeline and also look to move away from the term "fan"

ANyone got decent details on this. Most of my knowledge currently comes from a sales page, and of course it was much more about their product and how different FB fan pages will be.
