It's a used car salesperson industry: flipping stuff that you know isn't worth the asking price :)

Hi,
There seems to be some difference between registrars in the way they handle the preregistration landrush applications. Some only accept one preregistration per name. If they get it you get it. I've read that other registrars accept multiple applications and if they have multiple preregistrations for the same name you get the "opportunity" to be in an auction with others that preregistered for the name. Is that correct.

Is it a requirement of all asia registrations that there be an asia contact. I've read that some registrars will act as the Asia contact. However -

When I spoke to GoDaddy support they said your asia contact could be a webmaster in one of the asia countries as long as there is an asia contact to have all mail sent to and have their name as the contact. However ---

The suggested that whoever I work with in asia should be someone I really trust, because even though the name is in my account technically it is owned by my asia contact and they could claim it as their's later and cut you out. Is that a correct understanding?

Having had some experience with registerfly taking money and not delivering services and appropriating names I registered and paid for I'd be really reluctant to "trust" a registrar with the ownership of a domain I was registering especially if I really didn't have any legal understanding.

Is there a way to register Asia names, have the required asia contact and have legal ownership of the domain? Thanks in advance for your help.

All the best,
Ted Sudol

They must be smoking the good stuff when they thought about this idea and the percentage of people who will fall for this.

.eu might be crap, but even lll.eu sell for decent money in the reseller market.

the biggest fish is us domainers, who'll probably reg out all lll names of even .crap

so yes, I expect .asia to follow .eu's footsteps.
But that also means .asia will sell to domainers at least

I backordered about 100 .Asia's, Hopefully I can grab some good generics at a decent price.... I'm a Philippine citizen so it was no problem supplying my passport # as well as a residence. For "Persons" or individuals, they require a passport or citizenship number.

Is it really possible?

Another 4 letter extension will be subjected to the DNF bashing machine?

Yum yum...tasty.

Bring it on Doc, it wont phase me at all.... Unlike the Mobier's, I dont feel the need to make up BS statistics to justify my investment. :)

I don't think .asia will be bashed like .mobi because there is much less buzz and overhype going on.

Now we need .africa .europe too because .eu is just too restrictive.
.nafta is also a must-have in our portfolios :)
I will be first to sign up for .icann.crap.

Hi,
I looked at the site you mentioned above asia.asia. Watched the ticker of completed auctions. Saw that several generic names had already sold Feb 18, for many multiples of the reg price. I find that to be a little confusing in this "fair and equitable" process. It was my understanding that all of the prior periods - Sunrise, etc were for companies to protect their trademarks etc. The Landrush phase which began Feb 20 was for all generic names. So how can a generic name like cars.asia, etc. have already been reggged, gone to auction (I'm sure there was more than one registrant fo cars.asia), and sold on Feb 18?

All the best,
Ted Sudol

Do you really think people in these asian countries will type in .asia as an extension...I highly doubt it! I think this is another way reg companies can make more $. There are just way too many extensions out there that the end-user has no idea about.

You're pretty confident and i hope you make it big time. but it might be good to backoff on the guaranty a bit. if it doesn't work out you might get a n00b like me hurt buying into the hype.

Agree, I hope we dont see members hyping .Asia for this very reason, I think many newbies are losing a lot of money from hype and misinformation of certain TLD's, the most obvious; dot mobi, And their too embarrassed to say anything about it.

My prediction is close to what others are saying here, .Asia will end up just as .EU did, I dont see Asian countries adopting a continent TLD over their own CC TLD... Here in the Philippines, they use .com.ph, .ph or .com.... If anyone knows about .PH, it was planned as the Mobile Phone TLD before .mobi came along, but was strongly opposed because it would of diluted the identity of the Philippine TLD, much the same way as dot MD, The Republic of Moldova.

I'm in it with the hope I can flip some .Asias, so I can buy more dot coms

whats the harm in taking a gamble with a 1000 bucks. Most of us have lost much more than that in bad regs and backorders
