I guess there's an eBay subculture flourishing out there and they've adopted the terms.

What I found interesting - and you notice this in bidding at sites like NameWinner before a drop - was the following quote:

“I count on sniping . . . to make my auctions go higher and higher and usually above what [the item] might sell for elsewhere.”
