However, eBay vendors who sell digital goods are facing a dilemma: starting today they can no longer list their inventory in auctions, as the company employs a new policy stating that digital goods may only be sold in the classified ad format.

anyone know if this will affect auctioning domains on ebay?

Yes... You are no longer able to transmit eBay purchases digitally.
This is an attempt to crack down on eBooks, but as domains can only be transferred digitally, it puts a bit of a kybosh on things.

But you know what, a little lateral thinking gets around it quite easily.
You can still sell the domain, so long as you send them a "transfer of ownership" form in the mail.
They're pro forma letters that you can find online.

Sell the domain, do the transfer when they pay, and then send them a transfer of ownership or a little printed out certificate in the mail.

Problem solved.

Or just choose, "Free Shipping," like I've always done...

Just say it will cost $1.00 for transferring "shipping" the domain. This will allow you to print out the confirmation, send them a letter with delivery confirmation on it.

the best would be if you could request domain ownership certificate from registrar and then send it to domain buyer by post
