A few years ago I was at my company's headquarters for a huge training / meeting. I was finally able to meet my counterparts from other areas of the country and also my counterparts fro Puerto Rico. These guys were pretty cool but their supervisor had a warped sense of humor. Another one of my team members is first generation "American", his parents were from Puerto Rico but he didn't speak a word of Spanish (don't ask me). This poor guy had no idea how twisted the PR supervisor's sense of humor was.
He walked up to the PR supervisor and asked "It's besamè culo, right? (meaning "kiss my ***"). Sure enough, the PR supervisor's humor kicked in.
"Well, you can say that but you can't literally translate sometimes, it won't make sense or once in a while it will mean something far worse than what you mean. What you need to say is this... (insert phrase).
The guy thanked him and walked up to the Miami supervisor (who was also from Puerto Rico), whom I was standing next to and walked right up to him and said, rather loudly,
"¡(Name), rompamè culo!"
Sure enough the Miami supervisor was taken back by the comment then we all looked over to the PR supervisor and realized what was happening. Sure enough, we all laugh about it now, even poke fun at this person for this.
