Odd email tonight, I get a hello and heres your pass/id for a domain registrar called bigrock.com. I login and sure enough I have an account set up there, all info is correct, even the password was one I use.

So what the heck is going on, did a registrar go under somewhere and this is who took over or what, there is no name in the account, no past billing showing... odd.

Anyone get a similar email or know whats up with that?

Same here. I think they've taken over Answerable.

Yes, I got one also. If I am not mistaken, this was a default for Answerable.com.

http://answerable.com/

I had no idea what was up and went back and found an email notification sent out earlier in the month.

Ahhhhh ok, when they knew my login and password and all my info was spot on in the account I figured it had to have come from somewhere I had registered a name.

Thanks

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your association with Answerable.com. As you are aware, Answerable.com is part of Directi - a $300 Million group of Businesses established in the year 1998.

Last year, Directi launched BigRock.com - a new domain-name registration, web-hosting and website-design business focused on providing web-presence solutions to SMBs, Professionals and Individuals worldwide.

In order to serve you better, we are in the process of migrating all Answerable.com customers to BigRock.com. At BigRock, you can look forward to better pricing, improved customer service, best-in-class products and a more pleasant purchase experience. We are also in the process of rolling out several upgrades over the next few months, including a revamped control panel, new product launches and enhanced product offerings.

We will begin the migration on 16-March-2011 and the entire process will take 7 days during which time you will NOT be able to make any changes to your account or orders. If you have any urgent orders to complete such as purchases, renewals or deletions, we suggest that you make those transactions BEFORE 16-March-2011 or wait until the migration is complete. If you have any pending orders that you would like to pay for, please do so before 16 March 2011.

During the move, your customer account details, account settings and all the orders in your account will be migrated seamlessly to BigRock.com. Please note, the entire process is automated and you do not need to make any modifications at your end.

You will be notified at the following stages during the migration process 1. Upon creation of your user account with BigRock – You will receive the new URL to log in to your BigRock account. Please note at this stage you will NOT be able to see your orders in the BigRock account 2. Upon completion of order migration to BigRock – Approximately 7 days after you receive the BigRock account creation email, you will receive another email confirming successful migration of all your orders to BigRock. You will now be able to manage all your orders again

We will be at your service throughout this period and beyond. If you need any clarifications, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We are confident that you will enjoy your experience with BigRock.com.

Thank You! The Answerable / BigRock Team

This explains why answerable was always so terrible to deal with, there backend was horrible and transferring out was next to impossible.

I still have a name there which I was trying to transfer out since 2009 but all attempts failed as either could not get auth codes or the auth codes they were wrong. Hard to believe ICANN allows registrars like that to operate.

For me it was easier to just let them drop, I hated answerable. They were in my top 3 worst registrars.

i had some problems with registrars that had the same backend as answerable but domains that were actually with answerable.com itself, i never had problems transfering out. heck, they allow you to transfer out way after the domain has been expired and would give you 40 days to renew.

Amen. Or, they would just outright steal them. Such is life owning several hindi keywords and dealing with Answerable/Directi.

I know, a few years ago I let almost 100 mostly .com names (some good) drop since EasySpace.com (an exptremely bad UK registrar as are others in the UK for some odd reason) refused to give the auth codes unless I first paid a high undisclosed and non-agreeable 'transfer out' fee.
