Like most of you, I have a top secret plan to take over the world one website at a time. With the new year coming I find myself carefully crafting a strategy to expand my current business. I currently own a handful of websites in the service, affiliate and content industries. I am hoping to find a way to put my business on autopilot this year andI'm carefully spreading my web presence to help mitigate risk.

What are you guys doing to diversify?

How are you going to bring home more bacon in 2013?

I bought 70 acres of land to farm pigs.

Seriously though, I'm twiddling my thumbs and still thinking about the master plan.

I think it's good to diversify and have multiple streams of income but if you spread yourself too thin you won't be successful with any site. It's also ridiculously easy to spread yourself thin working in this business.

That said, every one is different and can handle different work loads. Personally I prefer focusing on 2-2 sites max at the same time.

I am hoping to offer partnerships in some of my names. The plan is to team up with some website site specialist and let them have a stake. I will take a minor roll for a percentage and retain ownership of the name. No deals yet but a few prospects.

Bought 70 acres to farm pig.. That sounds like a better plan than domaining! Lol

Spreading yourself too thin might be smarter than putting all your eggs in one basket. I rather struggle and get paid. I'm hoping to manage about 3 big sites thus year. It might be a bit much but it sounds challenging and I love a good challenge.

Reaching out to develop is also a great idea. What type of domains are they?

diversify by acquiring names in various categories

By building profitable busineses then buying the right domain name.
I am working on 3 that earn $ even without website, Imagine that!

I will go into more detail on this in a later thread.

To be successful you absolutely have to build a business.

Why should users come to my website? Well.. because I invest heavily in the best content and make life a little easier. You have to invest in what your visitors want to consume.

I would argue that execution is more important than being profitable though. Even if you have the most unprofitable business model and the wrong domain you can still change the world and build an empire (ie wikipedia).

Thanks for the comment Adam!
