Once a domain goes on-hold, how long before it becomes expired?

Approximate idea is good enough.

It depends on which registrar is.

however, it seems that theres no rules nowadays.

BulkRegister has registrar-hold for about a month, the domain is then available about 9 days later. That info is about 3 months old but still holds I think.

BulkRegister releases names anywhere from 25-38 days after expiration.
