I got a call from BIDO regarding a particular domain. Has anyone ever had this happen? I really don't have much more information than that other than he said he could help me sell it. Any similar situations or feedback is appreciated.

Sure I've had a few calls from them. I plan on looking more into selling on bido but haven't had time.
One thing I've noticed on a couple calls is that they are just calling the Whois contact of names for sale on here and don't look to see that I already have an account with them.

I'm impressed. At least they are being aggressive in trying build up the domain quality in their sales.

So I am assuming they have someone who is interested in the domain and they want BIDO to broker it...?

Yeah they called me up from the whois on one of my domains also. I might look into it more.

I'm assuming they see what they believe are to be quality domains that will sell, but I doubt they have someone interested in the domain already (imho).

I received a call today from Larry. They are being aggressive, and that's not necessarily a bad thing...
I've been meaning to check out Bido a little further, but never got around to it.

A lot of US companies have a tendency to do that - they think everyone lives on US time...

I thought that they had an interested buyer but it was just a marketing phone call. BIDO auctions are too short anyways.

I also got a call from them, mentioning one particular domain I'd recently acquired. I then offered it (as they suggested) through one of their "guarantee" auctions ... but no bites yet.

It's a shame - they seem like hard-working & well-intentioned folks, but their daily auctions are still an endless stream of dreck. Today's list is typical; nearly 300 domains for auction, and there aren't even 5 that I would register if they were freely available (apart from a handful of LLL.us domains for which the "Bido price" is $99).

You can't blame sellers for not putting good domains there; I've listed almost 50 domains, of which only 1/3 have sold, and most of those were at the minimum $28 price. I'm not sure how to solve their chicken-and-egg problem (better domains won't be listed unless many buyers come, and many buyers won't come unless better domains are listed).

Limiting the number of submissions per seller and the number of daily auctions would be the best start. IMO

I was surprised to see how long today's list and if I knew it will be that much I wouldn't setup my LLL.us auction for today.

At least they did make a longer auction which is now 5 days. I posted the one they called me about so we'll see. I have had no luck in the past with BIDO.

It seems a little extreme to have to call people to get names to list. There are lots of other ways to go about it. I see auctioned names selling there for under $50 a lot of the time, which isn't worth the hassle IMO.

It really depends on what you're doing... if you've got short domains (LLLL's, LNL.com's etc) they tend to sell well. If you've got god.com or something, they aren't selling for enough at this point (though it might through the Guarantee Program because of NameMedia, Rick Latona etc). A lot of the sellers at the moment seem to be ccTLD traders and people turning Reg Fee Domains into $28 sales - more power to them *shrug* :)
